New Jersey Gay Couples Treated Like Second Class Citizens.

February 19th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Those were the words used by a commission established to study gay cival unions in New Jersey.  The study basically said civil unions create a “second-class status” for gay couples, rather than giving them equality.

The report stopped short of calling for gay marriage in New Jersey, but hinted strongly that anything short of that is not likely to solve the problems.  The commission did find that gay couples in Massachusetts, the only state that now allows same-sex marriage, do not experience some of the legal complications that those in New Jersey do.

The problems won’t be solved , until the states come up with a gay union of some sort that allows any couple to live together and has ALL the advantages of marriage.
If some sects of people refuse to ok marriage for gays then don’t call it marriage for gays but the union of gays must be protected in all the ways a marriage contract is protective of straight couples.
This is only a fair solution and shouldn’t ruffel the feathers of people who preach against gay marriage.(they will always bitch about it, but if it isn’t actually called marriage, it should be harder to raise public petitions against it.
